I am a lawyer in CT and practice in this area of the law.  A contract to rent for own is where you pay money to have the right to purchase the property at the end of the term or whenever the parties agree as to the time that the option to purchase must be exercised.  If you paid for the option and the time for you to exercise it has not come yet the landlord is not allowed to sell the house to someone else absent you telling the landlord that you do not want to exercise the option.  I suggest that you obtain a lawyer to file a breach of contract againt the landlord and to invalidate the sale.  Most lawyers will provide you a free initial consultation.
