Question Details: I have been a Major with a local sheriff's Office for the past 13 years. I have been out for back surgeries 2-3 times in the past 3 years, 20%disability US Army. I am being demoted to a Lieutenant and my employer stated its because Ive been out alot due to medical. They are also reducing my salary although Im an exempt employee. I have never been written up or counseled on anything adverse.

While I'm not a Georgia lawyer, I'd be very surprised if they can do this to you without writing you up and giving you a hearing. There are basic due process rights that have to be observed, under the U.S. Constitution, before the government can take anything involving liberty or property away from you, and that includes a government job. There may be other laws that protect you as well.
