Before initiating a law suit against a defendant in small court in Collier County (FL), how much time do i have to allow defendant to pay?

Question Details: My dog was attacked and bit by a dog in my neighborhood (owner of dog let go of the dog's leash)...Sheriff and Animal services investigated at my request. I am asking responsible party to reimburse my dog's vet bills before filling lawsuit in Small Claims court. How much time do I have allow for responsible party to pay? is 7 days sufficient?

I would send them a certified latter and then give them at least 7 business days to contact you about resolving the issue.  If you do not hear back by then, file in small claims court.  The judge will ask if you tried to settle this beforehand and you wan to be able to say "yes", and just how you did so.  Sending such a letter will go a long way with the court in establishing your credibility.
