Question: Business - Illinois

Asked on 11/4/2009

Auto repossession- can an attorney help to get it back?

My car was repossessed. I was given 2 weeks to find another lender/finance company to do a full pay off of $16000. No lenders have responded to my applications. My credit is poor. I have 5 days left. Can an attorney help me? If so, is it too late to get one? How much will it cost to get an attorney?

I am a lawyer in CT and practice in this area of the law.  The lawyer can try to help you by locating another lender to help you.  Maybe the lawyer knows a private lender that can lend you money despite your credit.  Most lawyers will charge you an hourly fee to provide these services, however, you may negotitate to pay the lawyer in any way that they will accept.  Most lawyers will meet with you for free the first time.  you do not have a lot of options here regarding keeping your car as the lender is going to potentially sue you for the money owed.  The lawyer you hire may be able to negotitate some kind of settlement for your.  bring all the papers you have regarding the matter to the lawyer.
