The insurance company is required to pay you the fair market blue book value of your car if it is totalled.  the car insurance company is not responsible for the fact that the blue book value is not sufficient to buy you a new car or any car for that matter.  while i agree that it is not fair, it would be unfair for the insurance company to have to pay more than the value of the damages that their insured caused in the motor vehicle accident. The next question then is whether you were injuredin the accident.  if you were injured and have medical bills you may be entitled to pain and suffering whereby you may obtain additional money that can be put towards a new car.  if you do not have any medical bills and are not injured, then there is nothing more that you can do.  however, you are welcome to a second opinion.
