While some states regulate this LA does not; there is no legal minimum age for a child to be left home alone.  Basically, it comes down to a matter of common sense.  Is the child afraid to be by themselves, will they be alone or required to watch other children, do they know how to handle emergencies, how late/long will they be left alone, do they have any medical/mental disabilities, are their neighbors close by, etc?

Here is a link to a booklet published by the LA Department of Social Services that will be of help:  http://www.pcal.org/documents%20on%20website/homealone.pdf .  You should contact them with any further concerns that you may have.

Best of luck.
