Are farmers in kansas responsible for their livestock causing car accidents? For example, cows on the high way?
Question Details: My boyfriend was driving back to the army base tonight when he struck a cow that was on the highway. Is the owner of the cow responsible for this?

I am a lawyer in CT and practice in this area of the law. At common law, owners of animals have a responsible for keeping them under control at the very least. I suggest that your bf hire a lawyer to file a negligence lawsuit against the owner of the cow as the owner had a duty to keep the cow under control in a fenced in area to prevent it from wandering into the road. he should be able to recover property damages and for any pain and suffering
