appearance before court commissioner

Question Details: i have been served with papers to appear before a court commissioner regarding a judgement. i am too embarrassed to attend and can't afford to pay anyways. what happens to me if i don't show up?

At worst, you could be arrested and fined or imprisoned for contempt, and you'll still end up having to go before the court commissioner, so please, don't skip this appearance.  As embarrassing as that will be, I can all but promise you that this would be your least embarrassing approach to the situation, as well as the least expensive.

All you're likely to have to do, here, is give sworn testimony about your assets and income, for your judgment creditor's use.  You have to answer honestly, but if there's no money in the bank, there's nothing much anyone can do about that.
