What is an employee's/bank's liability if the employee divulged personal financial information to an unauthorized third-party?

Question Details:

My sister-in-law asked her sister for some personal information about a checking account of mine. She wanted to know if I was making payments on a loan from this account. This was done without my permission. Do I have any recourse against the employee and/or the bank?

If you suffer financial loss from the information, you could sue the employee and/or the bank. (Without financial loss, even if you've been wronged, there's nothing to sue for--you don't need compensation. The civil system is designed to compensate for losses.) You could also complain about the employee to bank management; and whether you do that or not, you could file a complaint with your state's banking regulators for this act.
