Can my employer tell me when to break for lunch?

Question Details:

After working for 4 hours we must be given lunch break of 30 min. The employer says have lunch at 11 am. Can we take lunch at 12.00 or 12.30 instead?  Also, I work 8 hours but I get paid only 7.5 hours; is that legal?

Employment and Labor Law Answers

1) Employers may set lunch time, just as they may set break time, work start and end hours, etc.

2) Employers need to provide lunch in many cases, but they don't necessarily need to provide a paid lunch. If you are not working for that half-hour, the employer does need to pay you for the time. So if you actually perform 7.5 hours of work, that's what you should be paid for.
