After felony DUI, how do I get the right to bear arms back?

Question Details:

My friend spent time in prision for felony DUI. She has since gained the right to vote back and now wants the right to bear arms back. I know there is a certain amount of years you have to wait before you can apply for the right to bear arms. Is it 7 years? How do we go about doing this? Is there an online application that we can do or do we have to go through a lawyer/ attorney? Thank you.

DUI / DWI Law Answers

Felons cannot own guns.  However, an ex-felon can.

An individual can become an ex-felon in one of two ways: having the conviction vacated by a court, or obtaining a pardon from either the governor (state offenses) or the president (federal offenses).  In either of those circumstances, gun ownership rights can be restored.

Possibly there is a provision  under Arizona law of which I am unaware that covers this situation.  You  can contact a local attorney to check.
