How does a visa holder establish residency in a state?
Question Details: I am an international student in F1 visa, residing here in te US for 6 years. I'm just wondering about the criteria to be resident . Does resident mean you have to have green card or the citizenship? Or what are the criteria to be resident in a state?
It is on a state by state basis since it is the individual states that establish their residency rules/requirements. It does not have anything to do with your immigration status but more with where you are physically residing, paying taxes, etc.
