If an unexplained deposit shows up in your bank account can you keep it?
Question Details:
$400 showed up in my bank account. I did not deposit that amount. It was pending but now cleared. Does that money legally belong to me now?

If it is a legitimate deposit into your account, then it belongs to you. But if the deposit was made in error to your account, and it is later discovered, it may not belong to you and you will be forced to pay it back. This is especially true when bank errors are involved. You should try and find out where that deposit came from before spending the $400.
