Texas Consumer Complaints Resource

Attorney Complaints — o Information on filing a complaint about a Texas attorney can be found on the State Bar of Texas website. The site answers questions about the grievance process, offers a Grievance Hotline, and provides an Attorney Complaint Information Brochure in English and Spanish. Grievance forms are also available for download.
Consumer Complaints — The Texas Attorney General’s Office investigates consumer complaints and provides an online consumer complaint form. The site also outlines alternative consumer complaint options and resources.
Credit Industry Complaints — The Texas Office of Consumer Credit Commissioner can assist creditors in resolving disputes and complaints. The complaint resolution process is outlined on the website and a complaint form is available for download. Materials on the site (including the complaint form) are available in English and Spanish.
Discrimination — o The Texas Workforce Commission, Civil Rights Division (formerly the Texas Commission on Human Rights) investigates complaints of employment and housing discrimination. The website tells you how to file a workplace or housing complaint and contains:
  • Fact Sheets about different types of discrimination and fair housing (some Fact Sheets are available in Spanish);
  • Civil Rights-related links (includes federal, state and local links);
  • Links to the various laws prohibiting employment and housing discrimination in Texas.

  • Doctor/Health Care Provider Complaints — o The Texas Medical Board investigates complaints about physicians as well as other licensees of the Texas Medical Board. Information about filing a complaint is available online, and complaint forms can be downloaded from the site (follow the links under the Services for Consumers tab).
    Insurance Company/Agent Complaints — o The Texas Department of Insurance assists Texans with insurance complaints involving the following types of insurance:
  • Auto/Home/Commercial Property;
  • Life, Accident, and Health;
  • Real Estate Title Insurance,
  • Physician or Provider.

    The site also provides information about the number and types of complaints filed against insurance companies and HMOs.

  • Lemon Law Complaints — o The Texas Department of Transportation provides assistance with the lemon law complaint process. The Department website explains the complaint process and contains useful links to Texas Lemon Law information. The complaint form can be downloaded from the site.
    Real Estate Agent Complaints — o The Texas Real Estate Commission is the state agency responsible for real estate professional licensing in Texas. The Commission accepts complaints about various types of real estate business people, including real estate brokers/agents and inspectors. Complaint forms with instructions are available in English and Spanish.
    Utility Company Complaints — The Public Utility Commission of Texas investigates complaints about telephone and electric service. Information about filing a complaint is available online, and complaint forms can be downloaded from the site.
