New York Council on Adoptable Children — places older and special needs children from the New York City foster care system, as well as children affected by AIDS, with permanent, loving families.
The COAC emphasizes education for prospective parents, and many of the services are free. Of special interest is the World Trade Center Permanency Project, that promotes well-being among families affect by the Sept. 11th attacks; the Warm Line, which provides emergency counseling for families in crisis; and the Kinship Connection Program, which supports grandparents and other relations who are taking care of children.
